In December, the Dürr Group acquired a major order in the growth business with systems for battery production. The mechanical and plant engineering company will supply a turnkey electrode coating system for the Italian battery manufacturer FIB, a company of the Seri Industrial Group. The order value for the plant in Teverola near Naples is in the high double-digit million euro range, according to the press release. The plant is designed for the production of lithium-ion battery cells with a total output of 8 GWh per year.

In the production of electrodes, thin metal foils are coated with cathode and anode materials made from various chemicals. Dürr will supply FIB, a company involved in the manufacturing of lithium iron phosphate batteries, with four production lines each for cathode and anode coating. These lines include so-called tandem coaters, in which the foils are coated sequentially on both sides. Other components of the production systems include dryers, calenders for compressing the material, and cutting devices to produce individual electrodes from the electrode foils. Additionally, Dürr will deliver environmental technology systems to recover and reuse the solvents needed for the coating process from exhaust air.

Dürr has been active in the battery production technology business since 2018. The FIB order is by far the largest project in this business area to date. "This major project has enormous strategic importance and underscores the attractiveness of our solutions for large-scale electrode manufacturing for batteries," explains Jochen Weyrauch, CEO of Dürr AG.The installation of the systems for FIB is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2025, with production expected to commence during 2026.
