The supplier Leoni wants to quickly reduce the greenhouse gas emissions of cables and wiring. The CO2 footprint of the products is to be reduced by half by 2030. The supplier takes into account the entire lifecycle of a product, starting with the first draft. The use of resources should be kept low from the start, according to Leoni.

The Limverse product line is meant to demonstrate this. Increasingly, vehicle lines are using bio-based materials derived from sustainable or renewable resources instead of petroleum. This also includes so-called mass-balanced plastics, whose synthesis in the reactors of the chemical industry has been able to reduce the need for petroleum-based raw materials additionally through bio-based materials. This means that the CO2 footprint is about 50 percent lower compared to traditional vehicle and charging lines, according to the supplier.

Limverse covers all applications from single-core vehicle wiring, multi-core sensor cables, coaxial and data transmission cables to charging cables and extruded flat cables. The cables continue to meet the high electrical, mechanical and thermal quality requirements and specifications of the automotive industry, Leoni writes.

For greater sustainability, according to the company, engineers also improve the design and manufacturing process of a wiring system, reduce the use of material and thereby weight and energy consumption, and increase the proportion of recycled materials.
