"Our trailer has a load capacity of 3.9 tons. That's much more than was previously possible. This makes it the largest trailer currently on the road in Europe," emphasizes Christiane Kerber, Vice President Static Equipment Linde Engineering. With the development of this LH2 trailer, the leading specialist for industrial gases and engineering is laying the foundation for the noticeable expansion and modernization of the transport fleet for liquid hydrogen.

Individual approaches were taken to hydrogen transportation

At 2.6 tons, the capacity of conventional hydrogen containers is therefore significantly lower than that of Linde trailers, such as those used to transport air gases (nitrogen, oxygen and argon). Linde therefore opted for an in-house development. It is emphasized that as the only producer of liquid hydrogen in Germany and one of the largest hydrogen suppliers worldwide, the LH2 trailer is a response to the constantly increasing demand for hydrogen. However, despite the increasing demand, hydrogen liquefaction capacities are still limited, which often means long transportation routes, as Linde explains. The reason for this is that the very low liquefaction temperature of -253 °C requires a lot of energy. Incidentally, Linde itself operates two hydrogen liquefiers at the Leuna Chemical Park.
