In mechanical engineering, software is playing an increasingly crucial role. What was mostly solved mechanically in the past is now handled by electronics and the corresponding software. And with the new segment Kuka Digital, the company is now expanding its software and digital business. The goal is to achieve comprehensive digitalization of various machines and systems in production, which will range from the first 3D simulation to networking and data analysis, up to the use of artificial intelligence (AI). In this way, Kuka aims to position itself more broadly in this market, which has significant growth potential.

The digital world is to be expanded beyond robotics and automation systems, encompassing the entire lifecycle of a production landscape. However, Kuka Digital will not be limited only to Kuka robots. This involves interfaces, standards for data, cloud integration, and consulting services, to be more specific. In the spirit of an ecosystem approach, Kuka is also relying on a network of competent partners.

Kuka will accelerate digitally later this year

The new Kuka business division builds on the knowledge that Kuka has accumulated over the decades. With Device Insight and Visual Components, there are already strong, independent brands within the corporate group in the areas of Internet of Things (IoT) and Data Analytics, as well as simulation software. Device Insight helps companies digitize their production and business processes based on IoT, Data Analytics, and Artificial Intelligence (AI), making them more transparent and efficient.

Visual Components develops 3D simulation software and offline programming of robots for manufacturing. Users utilize the software to plan production layouts, simulate processes in advance, or program machines offline before commissioning, as Kuka explains. To ensure that digitization no longer means isolated solutions, they plan to launch "Mosaixx" this year to expand their digital portfolio. This is an open, collaborative cloud platform for Industrial Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). It forms the foundation for continuously digital production with a combination of tools (software), data management, cloud computing, and process understanding. It is scheduled to be introduced to the public at an event on November 7.

Complete project processes independently and securely from any location

With "Mosaixx," system integrators and other users from the engineering sector gain access to a variety of software tools related to ECAD and MCAD programs, simulation, offline programming, and virtual commissioning. The new cloud platform, combined with Kuka's long-standing experience in project business, results in a future-proof and specialized end-to-end solution. This enables engineers to efficiently structure and securely interconnect their workflows within a project in a common and location-independent work environment with processes, workflows, and cloud storage.
