A now extended contract between KNDS and Steyr Motors covers the delivery of at least 500 motor-generator units (MGU). The agreement is valid up to and including 2034. The agreement therefore represents a significant milestone in the long-standing partnership between the two companies. The compact 2-cylinder diesel engines with integrated generator are said to serve as reliable power generators in the military sector. They are intended in particular for use in the Leopard 2 main battle tank. However, they can also be found in the Leguan bridge-layer. The new order supports the German government's modernization and procurement programmes. According to those involved, the planned ramp-up of systems such as the Leopard 2 is a key component in ensuring that the strategy works.

Reliable Power Supply in the Field Increasingly Important

The MGUs from Steyr Motors are characterized by their compactness, robustness and efficiency. According to the manufacturer, the latter guarantees the self-sufficient power supply of state-of-the-art military platforms, which is seen as a key requirement in increasingly digitalized and networked deployment scenarios in the event of defence. With the extended contract, Steyr Motors is also consolidating its position as a strategic supplier in the field of special military drives. The Austrians are underlining the importance of their cutting-edge technology within the European defense industry. Steyer engines also power locomotives, boats and auxiliary power units.
