Secure and networked systems: this is the business area of IEI Integration Corp from Taiwan. The company supplies hardware and software for various industries such as factory automation, telecommunications, medical technology, defense and network security. IEI's key products include embedded systems, industrial panel PCs, network appliances and virtualization platforms. The products are designed to function reliably in harsh industrial environments and offer solutions for the management and optimization of decentralized computer networks (edge computing).

At Computex 2024, we spoke with Y.T. Lee, Vice President of IEI.

Mr. Lee, what is your main motivation for exhibiting at trade fairs in Germany such as Embedded World and Electronica?

IEI aims to support the German and European market with its edge computing platforms for factory automation. These platforms integrate our iRM remote management system and the iVEC virtualization system. Our goal is to gain new customers and resellers in Germany and use the country as a base for expansion in Europe.

To this end, we exhibit at trade fairs such as Embedded World and IT and cyber security events such as Nürnberg Messe and Hannover Messe. The focus on cyber security is being strengthened by the new Cyber Resilience Act (CRA). We also want to gain a further foothold in the cyber security market with our network appliances, which are already being used by global companies.

Which of your products and services are particularly well suited to the European market?

Our edge computing products such as the modular control system, the fanless embedded system for DIN rail mounting and our industrial panel PCs are optimized for use in factory automation. They not only offer reliable performance, but also an attractive design for different environments.

The IEI Remote Management (iRM) solution enables efficient management and maintenance of devices distributed across multiple locations. Our Virtualization Edge Computer (iVEC) provides a powerful virtualization platform with remote desktop access, ideal for OT (Operational Technology) professionals.

In the area of network security, we offer the PUZZLE-9040, a security appliance with two Intel processors and OCP 3.0 network interfaces, which enables a total throughput performance of 800 GBit/s.

What three important functions do your products and services offer?

In terms of hardware, our modular embedded system TANK-XM811 is the first to be mentioned. It is based on an Intel Core processor and offers numerous expansion options. Then there is the fanless embedded system for the DIN rail, which is equipped with an Intel Celeron processor and has an isolated CAN bus interface to protect against high-voltage transients and earth loops. Finally, our panel PCs are durable, robust industrial panel PCs with numerous I/O interfaces.

On the software side, we offer an integrated remote management system (iRM) with the edge computing solution package to monitor the system status. The virtualization software (iVEC) makes it possible to run several industrial applications on a single hardware platform. This makes resource utilization more efficient, performance more reliable and simplifies management in different industrial environments.

Which applications do these products mainly address?

Our products are primarily designed for factory automation, especially for HMI applications, edge computing gateways and machine vision. Other important target markets are edge computing, network technology and medical technology.

What other information about your company would you like to share with the readers and users?

We focus on three major business areas: Edge computing, network communication and the medical sector.

In the areas of edge computing and embedded systems, we offer applications for industrial AI inspection (machine learning for defect detection, meter reading and signal inspection), energy management (HMI and data platforms) and for rail and maritime transport (monitoring systems and virtualization controllers). We also develop energy-efficient displays such as e-paper (EPD).

In the fields of network and cyber security, we are expanding in Europe and the USA with SD-WAN and 5G CPE platforms. The growing demand for hybrid cloud applications and data protection is boosting our growth in the storage and server market. In medical electronics In the medical sector, we are using artificial intelligence to develop new applications and increase our competitiveness.

How important is technical support for your products?

IEI's R&D and support team has a high level of technical expertise in the industrial environment, which covers a wide range of applications. This expertise enables us to effectively support our partners in Europe and quickly find answers to complex problems. In particularly difficult cases, we work directly with our partners to provide comprehensive technical support to end users.

Which business partners and distributors do you work with in Europe and Germany?

In Europe, we work with authorized distributors such as ICP Deutschland (Spectra) in Germany, NCS System in Belgium/France, APLUS Système Automation in France, Koning & Hartman in the Netherlands and Contradata in Italy. (heh)
