Hyundai invested in its development capacities in Germany. The already existing test center at the Nürburgring was expanded. The "Square Campus" of the Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Center in Rüsselsheim is set to open in March.

At the Nürburgring, the automaker began endurance tests in 2011 before opening a fully-fledged test center in 2013. The company has now expanded its capacities by a good 800 square meters (approx. 957 sq yd). This includes specialized laboratories, new workshop areas, and high-voltage charging facilities for electric vehicles.

The expansion demonstrates confidence in the growth of the e-mobility sector, Tyrone Johnson, Managing Director of the Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Center, is quoted in a statement. "Electric high-performance vehicles are an important part of our DNA. Additionally, we will continue to refine conventional engine technologies."

Square Campus: New all-wheel drive test bench

The Square Campus in Rüsselsheim will in the future host the largest all-wheel drive test bench of the group for analyzing noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH). New chassis and powertrain test benches are also being set up there.

With these devices, the vehicle's performance is simulated and evaluated under various conditions without the need for road tests. The focus is on specific systems of electric vehicles, driver assistance systems, infotainment, and electrification technology.
