Most German economics professors see Germany as poorly prepared when Donald Trump returns to the White House. In the economist panel of the Munich Ifo Institute and the FAZ, around 85 percent of the 180 experts surveyed responded that there are, for example, insufficient preparations in Germany for the announced tariff increases or the expected negative effects of a Trump administration on NATO cooperation or climate protection. The majority attributed these failures to the  german government.

Trump could make several pillars wobble

Economists at German universities are pessimistic in every respect about the effects of a second Trump term when it comes to Europe. As such, a full 89 percent expect the consequences for economic growth in Germany to be negative or even very negative. The German economy is known to be strongly export-oriented and will therefore be particularly hard hit by the planned protectionist trade policy under Trump. Beyond that, around 90 percent of scientists believe that Trump's re-election will not bode well for global measures against climate change. Additionally, 80 percent also expect negative consequences for international security and NATO.
