More Safety in Autonomous Driving
Marquardt has expanded its range of integrated, interconnected steering wheel systems. In addition to ergonomic paddles, compact switches, and smart solutions for heating and lighting, the modular product portfolio also includes a Hands-on Wheel Detection (HOWD) system for autonomous and semi-autonomous driving functions. The Electronic Control Unit (ECU) serves as an integrative interface that unites and monitors all functions.
Driver assistance systems are achieving increasingly higher levels of automation but do not relieve the driver of responsibility: at least in semi-automated driving (SAE Level 2 and 3), the driver must always be ready to take control of the vehicle. To monitor this, Marquardt has developed Hands-on Wheel Detection (HOWD). Through the electronic control unit, the system receives signals from capacitive sensors in various steering wheel zones, processes them, and evaluates them. Based on the signals, the vehicle detects whether the driver has their hands on the steering wheel. This also works when the steering wheel heating, which also reacts to touch, is active. It autonomously adjusts the temperature as soon as a person grips the steering wheel. The sensors measure changes in electrical capacitance in the process.
Special Adhesives in Special Vehicle Construction
Stable connections in special vehicle construction: The special adhesives meet high requirements for durability, sealing, vibration tolerance, as well as temperature and moisture resistance.

Ruderer Klebetechnik GmbH offers a wide range of high-performance adhesives specifically for special vehicle construction, which not only accelerate manufacturing processes but also make them permanently safer and more efficient. Two specialty adhesives have proven particularly effective in special vehicle construction: Körapop 240 and Körapop 225. These modern high-performance adhesives come from the Körapop line of the traditional company Kömmerling. They are suitable for elastic bonding and sealing of covers, floor panels, interior and exterior claddings, as well as roof structures. Since the adhesives meet the high demands of special vehicle construction in terms of load capacity, strength, tightness, vibration tolerance, and resistance to temperature and moisture, users benefit from maximum planning and design flexibility combined with high process reliability.
Car Seat With Mechanical 3D Massage Function

Adient, a supplier of automotive seating systems, is launching a new mechanical massage seating solution. The innovation makes its debut in the new M8 plug-in hybrid model by automaker GAC-Trumpchi. The vehicle features three rows of seats and a massage system provided by Adient, offering unprecedented seating comfort as an industry first. The mechanical massage system uses a 3D massage module that precisely simulates professional kneading massage techniques and provides significantly stronger relief from fatigue compared to conventional air-pressure-based massage systems. Based on Western fascia therapy and traditional Chinese medicine philosophy, it offers targeted relief for back and lumbar issues, drawing on professional massage expertise.
Extension Mechanisms: Smooth Operation And Heavy Duty
The lubricant-free and wear-resistant hybrid roller bearing combines smooth operation and high load capacity. It is particularly suitable for precise adjustment tasks under changing loads, such as in steps of train carriages.
(Image: Igus GmbH)
Igus has developed the new Drylin W hybrid roller bearing with a roller retraction system. Thanks to a clever design, it combines smooth operation with heavy-duty capabilities. The dual functionality of the hybrid roller bearing—smooth yet robust—results from its special construction: the bearing consists of an aluminum housing in which a roller is guided. A compression spring presses the roller with defined preload against the guide rail. Additionally, a plain bearing made of durable high-performance plastic is integrated into the housing. When a linear carriage moves unloaded over four hybrid roller bearings on a guide rail, the rollers carry the motion. This allows objects mounted on the carriage, such as the step of a train wagon, to be adjusted with exceptional ease and minimal friction, supporting a load of up to 16.5 pounds per bearing point. When a sudden high load occurs, such as the body weight of a passenger, the spring preload is overcome. The roller lifts off the guide rail, retracts into the housing, and is thus protected from a localized overload. This mechanism is comparable to a turtle retracting its head in the face of danger. The main load-bearing function is now provided by the wide contact surface of the polymer plain bearing.
Long-Term Trouble-Free Rail Operation
The Zelos C01 LS from Jumo monitors containers, protects pumps from running dry, or controls valves, PLC inputs, or warning signals. It is used in the rail sector.

The product portfolio from Jumo, specifically tailored to the rail industry, includes sensors that withstand the extreme demands of rail vehicle operations. Thanks to tests according to EN 50155, the components are resistant to vibrations, temperature fluctuations, humidity, and electrical disturbances—ensuring long-term trouble-free operation. "With our rail program, we offer manufacturers of rail vehicles and their suppliers customized, durable, and safe solutions," explains Lars Ronge, Industry Manager at Jumo.
