The two companies will work closely together on the development, production, supply chain management and sales of zero-emission buses. Katsuto Kora, currently head of Fuso's bus division, is to take over as CEO. Kawasaki is planned as the headquarters of the joint venture. The buses will be developed and manufactured at the Fuso plant in Toyama under the Fuso name. The plan is to start with the Model T and Model U developed by Foxconn as reference vehicles.

Focus on Efficiency And Safety

The Model T, which will be launched in 2021, has a range of 250 miles. Under full load conditions, the maximum speed is 75 miles per hour. The electric bus scores points with various safety assistance systems such as an inside wheel differential warning system, blind spot detection and an electronic rear-view mirror. The Model U is a new midi-sized electric bus designed for narrow city streets and remote areas. The interior can be configured as required. Its electronic control system and ADAS system are claimed to make the driving experience safer and more comfortable.

Sustainability

The new bus manufacturer will focus on the rapid development and market launch of electric buses for the Japanese market, but also for international markets. In addition, the partners want to improve the portfolio of vehicles with combustion engines and make it more sustainable.

Thanks to local development, procurement, production and distribution channels, the company will also be able to smoothly fulfill Japanese regulations, quality standards and customer requirements. Foxconn supports this with its global partner network and expertise in electronics manufacturing.

The transaction is expected to be completed in the second half of 2026, subject to approval by the relevant boards, shareholders and authorities. (se)
