Condition monitoring, predictive maintenance, and automatic ordering of spare and wear parts are the aspects that should be considered to keep machines maximally available. The specialists from Transaction-Network in Gottmadingen aim to smartly automate this job. They have expanded the Industrial Internet of Things module (IIoT) integrated into the eponymous ecosystem for after-sales service. This expansion creates the basis for new business models and accelerates the transformation of maintenance processes in mechanical engineering, which is known to face significant future challenges.

Fully automatic maintenance becomes a service concept

The IIoT module, integrated into the open ecosystem, has been expanded to enable Maintenance as a Service (WaaS). With the help of condition monitoring and predictive maintenance, machine manufacturers can now plan their maintenance proactively, allowing service partners to intervene earlier. Component manufacturers are also informed about spare parts needs and can optimally align their production capacities accordingly. For instance, when a machine reports a maintenance need, such as a lack of lubricant, the system automatically initiates a business process without manual intervention. This process involves ordering the lubricant and notifying the service technician. The maintenance is then carried out at a time when the machine is not running due to, for example, a format change.

Free webinars convey the concept behind it

While plant operators can enjoy reduced downtime and a longer lifespan for their machines, new business models emerge for machine manufacturers. Maintenance as a Service is now possible, where maintenance processes are offered as a continuous, data-driven service in a subscription model or on-demand service, rather than as a one-time service. The plant operator no longer needs to allocate its own resources; instead, the machine manufacturer takes over the maintenance processes as an external provider, elevating their after-sales service to a higher level. To show machine manufacturers the new ways to optimize their after-sales service, the Gottmadingen-based company is also launching a wide-ranging information campaign, which includes free webinars on either October 29 or October 31 at 14:00 each. Registration can be made at www.transaction-network.com.
