The new flagships of synthetic resin 3D printing set new standards for additive manufacturing, according to the manufacturer. They are based on Formlabs' own Low Force Display (LFD) printing system, which incorporates an expanded library of industry-leading synthetic resins, new automated post-processing features and improved application. The up to five times faster printing speed of the Form 4 (compared to the predecessor model Form 3+) opens the gate to a new level of productivity in product design, mechanical engineering, manufacturing and healthcare by accelerating market entry, for example. The Form 4 is Formlabs' fourth generation of desktop synthetic resin 3D printers. It is also described as particularly reliable and is said to deliver top-quality printing. In addition, Formlabs offers six new synthetic resins that complement the portfolio.

The technical highlights of the new printer:

  • Super-fast printing! Two to five times shorter printing times than the Form 3+ (depending on material) allow for iterations within an hour or large batch production through masked stereolithography (MSLA) printing technology. The majority of prints take less than two hours. Small parts should be available in minutes. With the vertical axis, printing speeds of around 100 millimeters per hour can be achieved.

  • Printing system LFD! Instead of laser and galvanometer technology, the Form 4 contains a powerful lighting unit, a specially developed peel texture, the new Light Processing Unit 4 (LPU 4), and a resin tank with a two-layer, flexible film;

  • High reliability! Validated print settings, a precise heating process, force detection and sensors to check for deposits ensure an industry-leading print success rate;

  • High-quality parts that always fit! This is made possible by the pixel size of 50 micrometers, strongly collimated light, advanced edge smoothing, and easily removable support structures;

  • Intuitive use! A printing process that anyone can learn in 15 minutes. This is achieved through automatic resin handling, material changes in minutes, automated post-processing, and design platforms with quick release technology.

  • Around 40 percent lower unit costs! These arise due to long-lasting resin tanks (more than 75,000 layers) and Light Processing Units (more than 1 million layers), 33 percent cheaper resin prices, and a 3.5 times higher throughput.
