With the ground-breaking ceremony for a new plant in Wałbrzych, Poland, Sungrow is relocating a significant part of its production to Europe for the first time. The investment of around $272 million USD reflects the company's ambition not only to supply the energy transition on the continent, but also to provide industrial support directly on site. The manufacturer reports this in its press release.

A New Production Center in Lower Silesia

Wałbrzych in the Lower Silesia region will be the site of a production facility with an area of around 700,000 square feet. After the planned commissioning next year, the plant will produce inverters with a total output of up to 20 gigawatts per year as well as energy storage systems with a capacity of 12.5 gigawatt hours.

The choice of location follows a clear logic. In recent years, Lower Silesia has specifically positioned itself as a region for industrial technologies of the future. In addition to its convenient location, local structures offer stable framework conditions for investment. For the region, the project also means the creation of around 400 jobs in technical and manufacturing sectors.

Responding to Fragile Supply Chains

The decision in favor of European production is less a question of additional capacity than a strategic response to the experiences of recent years. Global transportation chains have repeatedly proven to be susceptible to disruption. Long delivery routes, fluctuating freight costs and logistical bottlenecks make reliable project planning difficult.

Production in Poland significantly shortens the distances to central markets in Europe. At the same time, independence from intercontinental transport flows increases. Proximity to customers enables faster response times and greater planning reliability for photovoltaic and energy storage projects.

From Exporter to European Production Site

Sungrow's corporate headquarters will remain in Hefei, China. However, the company has been represented in Europe for many years with its own structure, managed from the headquarters in Munich. With 25 branches and two research centers, a dense organizational presence has developed over time.

The plant in Wałbrzych now adds an industrial base to this structure. For the first time, research, sales and service are now complemented by our own European production facilities.

Significance for Project Planning And Market Stability

The new production facility is an example of a development in which international technology providers are shifting their value creation closer to the sales markets. For planners and operators of large solar and storage projects in Europe, this primarily increases reliability in the procurement of key components. In a market with steadily growing demand for renewable energy solutions, this form of regional production structure is becoming increasingly important. (mr)
