In a new study, German VDMA and Porsche Consulting have examined the potential in the battery market for European machinery and plant manufacturers. According to a statement, around 200 battery factories are currently under construction or being planned worldwide. Currently, they are mainly being equipped with production technology from Asia. The authors of the study expect the market for electricity storage to grow from today's 20 billion euros (aprox. 21,695 billion USD) per year to around 550 billion euros (approx. 596,612 billion USD) annually by the year 2030.

Currently, only 8 percent of the high-tech equipment for battery factories comes from Europe. This is a small share that cannot influence technical development, the study further states. The authors of the study estimate that at least 20 percent is needed for this purpose. European manufacturers can achieve this target with joint integrated factory solutions, according to the authors. Technologically, the European industry is on par, but companies from China are already offering complete battery factories on a turnkey basis. This offers the advantage of reducing interfaces, thereby minimizing the time and financial risk involved in construction.
