The Weidmüller GTI Software equips the pastry shop Coppenrath & Wiese with the energy management system Resma. The system allows the bakery manufacturer to create an exact overview of the energy consumption at the entire location.

Reducing their own energy consumption in order to meet climate protection targets and reduce costs is of great importance to the patisserie Coppenrath & Wiese. In addition to using regional ingredients, a high level of energy efficiency is ensured in all processes and installations. Heat recovery, heat pumps and highly efficient drives have been standard for years and are constantly being improved.

Work easily - even without a service technician

Coppenrath & Wiese found a suitable partner in Weidmüller GTI Software. The subsidiary of Weidmüller specializes in industrial software solutions. It offers software services that are particularly intuitive to use and can be individually designed. "Our previous system did not meet our requirements for user-friendliness. We couldn't adapt it to our parameters on our own," explains Jürgen Siegbert, Head of Visualization, adding: "Then we became aware of the resource management tool from Weidmüller GTI Software. We can work easily with the software, even without service technicians. That convinced us." In addition, the functions of the resource management tool go beyond pure energy management. This creates additional benefits for the Coppenrath & Wiese pastry shop.

Versatile uses

In addition to its classical use as an energy management system according to DIN EN ISO 50001, the tool can be used for process optimization based on production data. In addition, a Human Machine Interface (HMI) can be integrated. Resma prepares the data for external evaluation possibilities, so AI tools can refer to them and create smart models. At Coppenrath & Wiese, more than 680 meters from the production in Mettingen and the logistics center in Osnabrück send data to the energy management system every 15 minutes. The data transmission is either direct, starting from the meter, via the Modbus communication protocol, or in the second instance via various database server systems.

The collected data can be displayed individually. The experts at the confectionery decide as needed whether the values should be read out and displayed per measuring station or for an entire production line. In addition, the time interval in which the energy consumption is to be monitored can be flexibly adjusted. Critical consumptions, whose values need to be recorded at shorter intervals, are defined in the energy management system. The period of data collection can also be individually adjusted.

The data displayed as a table can be transferred to other software and used beneficially. Coppenrath & Wiese thus evaluates the measurement results from production, logistics, and administration flexibly and as needed. The company also uses the visualization capabilities of the tool: The reports are summarized in diagrams. This allows the data to be captured at a glance, simplifying the detection of weak points. A bitmap of the Mettingen location also shows the local position of the meters in the various buildings. This makes it easy to determine where the measuring points are installed.

Specifically filter out energy-intensive processes

In addition to these basic functions, the bakery uses Resma for process optimization. Energy managers evaluate the reports of the software and thus specifically filter out energy-intensive processes. From this, they develop strategies for energy saving. The energy consumption is to be reduced by 2% annually. Resma is an important building block to achieve this goal and document progress.

Visualization tool reads control data

Germany's market leader for frozen cakes, pastries, and rolls uses the visualization tool Procon-WEB, another solution from the house of Weidmüller, in addition to the energy management system. The visualization tool reads out control data via protocols such as OPC UA and forwards them to Resma. The data automatically flow into the reports there. In this way, a holistic picture of energy consumption in production is created.

Easy installation and handling

After successful implementation of Resma, the experts from Weidmüller GTI software offer extensive training. In these trainings they provide the functionalities of the tool and thus enable their customers to work independently with the solution. Compatible software solutions such as Procon-WEB are also trained.
