Industrial companies have significantly accelerated their decarbonization efforts and are increasingly focusing on electrification, flexible energy use and digitalization as key levers of transformation. According to a press release, the latest Siemens Infrastructure Transition Monitor shows that 65 percent of managers in the industrial sector rate electrification as the most effective approach to achieving net-zero targets.

The study, for which 1,400 executives worldwide were surveyed, shows growing momentum in investments in power grids, renewable energy and the decarbonization of core industrial processes. The proportion of companies with advanced or mature in-house renewable energy generation rose to 42%, while 38% reported corresponding progress in the decarbonization of their main processes.

Reduce Costs

At the same time, the demand for flexibilization is gaining in importance: 59% of industrial companies plan to actively use energy systems in the future to adapt their consumption to market conditions in order to reduce emissions and costs. 45% already consider their measures in this area to be well developed.

Digitalization is seen as a key enabler, the report continues. 63% of respondents see it as a key driver of the energy transition, particularly through intelligent energy management and AI-supported optimization. According to the companies, improved data exchange between energy producers and consumers could increase both efficiency (56%) and resilience (58%).
