High storage density in the smallest of spaces—the logistics processes at Kurt J. Lesker Company have significantly improved thanks to a new tower storage system. As part of a manufacturing expansion, the company invested in a Kasto Ecostore 3.0 to store sheet metal.

With more than 400 employees, Kurt J. Lesker Company (KJLC) manufactures vacuum components for various industries. The specialists from Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania, USA, also process sheets, for example, when machine covers and cladding for vacuum centrifuges are required.

Variety of materials

In order to continue to supply its customers reliably, KJLC expanded its production and invested in additional processing machines. However, the expansion of capacities threatened to burst the sheet metal store at the seams. Additional space was not available, complications with stocking and destocking were inevitable. A new system had to be found that could handle little space and a variety of materials.

With the automated tower storage system Kasto Ecostore, KJLC can optimally store all sheet formats. In this project, the user particularly benefits from the small footprint and high storage density. Additionally, the system is characterized by flexibility in material handling and short access times. The load handling devices are automatically stored and retrieved, a lifting mechanism brings them to the optimal loading and unloading height. Other advantages of the economical solution, which fits KJLC's high demands on quality and customer satisfaction, are low downtime and fast, error-free operation thanks to the Pro Control machine control. With frequently changing users, the intuitive user interface with a touchscreen, which is easy to operate, pays off.

Logistics processes as simple and clear as possible

"The tower storage system Ecostore fits perfectly to our circumstances: We had a space problem and wanted to keep the logistics processes as simple and clear as possible. The setup was quick and our employees could start working productively with it immediately, " says Emily Ondras, Global Procurement Manager at KJLC.
