Machine vision is playing a central role in more and more applications. The more frequently these systems are used and the more different manufacturers are involved, the greater the need for an efficient, modular and manufacturer-independent installation concept. Murrelektronik has developed an installation package specifically for single-camera applications as a convincing overall solution.
Convincing overall solution: Murrelektronik's modular and manufacturer-independent, fully pluggable machine vision installation solutions bring signals, data and power into the direct machine environment.

Modern machine vision applications have become an integral part of today's production and logistics systems: they ensure efficiency, safeguard quality and guarantee safety for man and machine.
Flexible, modular and scalable systems are required in order to be able to react promptly to changes. And these systems should be as quick and easy as possible to install, commission and maintain, because trained specialist personnel are becoming an increasingly rare commodity. This is another reason why prefabricated software modules are becoming increasingly popular in order to further reduce effort and the risk of errors.
As a specialist in decentralized electrical automation technology, Murrelektronik also has a convincing overall solution for this topic: its modular and manufacturer-independent, completely pluggable machine vision installation solutions that bring signals, data and power into the direct machine environment.
A Simple Plug-And-Play Solution
Important innovation: With the new 90-watt power supply unit in protection class IP67 and with industrial approval, Murrelektronik enables a direct, industrial-grade power supply in the field for single camera applications.

At Automatica, Murrelektronik presented One-Cam-Connect as an important innovation in this area: A simple plug-and-play solution for the quick and safe installation of inspection stations with a single smart camera. Such systems are often used in intralogistics, for example, to check codes or text information at conveyor belt locks or packing stations.
The One-Cam-Connect package consists of a connection box with integrated voltage fuse and a power supply unit for 230V sockets. Important to know: It includes the first 90 watt power supply unit for single camera applications in protection class IP67 and with industrial approval. Clever detail: thanks to the integrated mounting brackets, these new power supply units can be quickly and securely attached to the machine rack.
Less is More
Not only the new One-Cam-Connect package, but all of Murrelektronik's machine vision installation solutions offer decisive advantages: By moving components and functions from the control cabinet to the industrial field and connecting local, self-managed systems to a central server via just one cable, costs can be reduced by 30 percent along the entire process from planning and design to assembly and installation. At the same time, the complexity of the parts to be procured is significantly reduced, while the clarity and flexibility of the installation concept increases.
On-site installation is as simple, quick and safe as inserting a plug into a socket, thanks to the plug & play principle with pre-assembled connection and connection cables based on internationally recognized standards. This reduces the time and effort required for electrical installation by 30 percent and protects against installation errors with every single installation.
Existing systems can also be quickly and easily expanded with additional cameras: simply mount the robust connection components with IP67 protection class directly on the machine frame and put them into operation—that's it.
Advantageous Modularity
Another major advantage is the modularity of the concept: users can connect up to four cameras to a hybrid switch, which combines power supply, protection and switch in one device. In addition, several switches can be connected to each other as a daisy chain—and thus expand the network of cameras and other peripheral devices.
The result: the installation, commissioning and network integration of four cameras is completed with just two cables. Additional cameras or components can then be added just as easily thanks to the daisy chain functionality. This not only pays off during installation. It also enables a fast and error-free system setup, simplifies maintenance, reduces planning and documentation costs and increases the reliability of the system.
Murrelektronik's consistently decentralized approach also considerably simplifies maintenance and troubleshooting. This is because all components of the machine vision system are connected locally. This makes it very easy to replace a camera or add a status light on site without having to laboriously and time-consumingly locate the connections in an often distant control cabinet.
This allows operators to carry out simple maintenance tasks more quickly and without the help of specialist personnel. An intelligent function of Murrelektronik's I/O modules and switches also helps them: the clearly visible LEDs on each port provide direct feedback on whether a connection has been made correctly—and the online diagnostic tools enable more detailed troubleshooting.

If a cable breaks, for example, the switch immediately indicates the fault. The team on site therefore only has to replace the defective cable—and the camera works again. In addition, only the affected port is switched off during this time. Downtimes and repair costs can thus be reduced to a minimum.
The I/O systems, power supplies and network solutions are also highly standardized and based on industry-standard connectors. This offers full compatibility with all components, regardless of the brand.
Ideally Equipped for Use in the Field
The consistently decentralized approach places special demands on robustness. This is why all components of Murrelektronik's machine vision installation concept are designed down to the last detail for installation in direct proximity to the process: they have robust, fully encapsulated housings, are shock and vibration resistant, meet protection class IP67 and withstand operating temperatures of up to –40°F to 130°F.
This means that a direct, industrial-grade power supply can now be implemented in the field for these applications—and, as usual with Murrelektronik, quickly, safely and manufacturer-independently thanks to standardized M12 A-coded connectors.
