Dürr, Grob, and Manz possess most of the necessary machine and plant technology to deliver the entire process chain from electrode production, cell assembly, and the module to pack assembly, as it is said. The focus of the collaboration has been the development of a concept factory for battery production since the beginning of the partnership, which can be viewed from today at the Battery Show Europe in Stuttgart in Hall 10. In six defined workstreams, special emphasis was placed on above-average process efficiency of the plant during the planning, the partners stress.

Battery manufacturing with low operating costs

Both technical and digital interfaces between the trades of the three partners play a central role in the development. The Dürr subsidiary "iTAC", an expert in process digitization, contributes its MES/MOM systems. With this, all production steps in battery manufacturing can be represented end-to-end. This includes both control and planning of the entire production process as well as analysis and traceability. In total, this achieves a production with high overall plant effectiveness, which would reduce operating costs. This is primarily achieved by reducing energy requirements and an overall smaller plant footprint.

First customer project will soon become reality

A first joint customer project - a plant for electrode production and assembly of battery cells - is already in the process of being implemented, it is further said. The joint project saves the customer their own extensive project management, as the interfaces in the processing have also been coordinated. Everything from one hand specifically means that Dürr, Grob, and Manz guarantee a smooth execution according to proven project management standards. An extensive and proven supplier network is not least helpful in this.

Europe needs its own battery production

Within the framework of the Battery Show Europe 2024 conference program, Dr. Hannes Schmüser (Member of the Board of Dürr Systems AG), German Wankmiller (Chairman of the Executive Board of the Grob Group), and Martin Drasch (Chairman of the Board of Manz AG) are speaking about the scaling of European battery production. After all, building a competitive battery industry in Europe requires more than just political incentives and guidelines. Quality and cost requirements as well as ecological goals are just as decisive for success, in the opinion of the three partners.
