Dürr, Grob and Manz possess a large part of the necessary machine and plant technology to deliver the entire process chain from electrode manufacturing to cell assembly and the module to pack assembly, as they say. The focus of the partnership has been on the development of a concept factory for battery production, which can be seen today at the Battery Show Europe in Stuttgart in Hall 10. The Dürr subsidiary "iTAC", an expert in the digitalization of processes, contributes its MES/MOM systems. This enables all production steps in battery manufacturing to be displayed end-to-end. This includes both the control and planning of the entire production process as well as analysis and traceability. In sum, a production with high overall plant effectiveness is achieved, which reduces operating costs. This is mainly achieved by reducing energy consumption and a smaller overall plant footprint.

First customer project will soon become reality

A first joint customer project - a plant for electrode production and battery cell assembly - is already being implemented, it continues. The joint project saves the customer their own complex project management, as the interfaces in the processing have also been coordinated. Everything from one source specifically means that Dürr, Grob and Manz guarantee smooth implementation according to proven project management standards. A comprehensive and proven supplier network is certainly a great help.

Europe needs its own battery production

As part of the conference program of the Battery Show Europe 2024, Dr. Hannes Schmüser (Member of the Board of Dürr Systems AG), German Wankmiller (Chairman of the Management Board of the Grob Group) and Martin Drasch (CEO of Manz AG) will talk about the scaling of European battery production. After all, building a competitive battery industry in Europe requires more than just political incentives and guidelines. The three partners believe that quality and cost requirements as well as ecological goals are just as decisive for success.
