Electrification meets lightweight design
Cold forging — Alternative to joining of aluminum and copper
You have limited experience with traditional joining processes such as laser, friction or resistance welding, but you need a material transition (aluminum/copper) in your application? Multi-material forming offers you new possibilities.
New possibilities of product and application solutions are being opened through combining the technologies of cold forging and joining. The contact zone resulting from the forming is characterised by a form-locking connection as well as cold welding of the materials leading to outstanding product properties.
Multi-material mixes and in particular the combination of aluminum and copper are of great importance in the development of alternative propulsion systems or high-voltage storage systems. The optimal combination of materials enables cost-efficient, lightweight, and high-performance applications as well as new mobility concepts.
This technology can be used to manufacture complex fasteners from two or more components based on our existing product portfolio.
