At CES in Las Vegas 2025, Continental will present the Invisible Biometrics Sensing Display. This utilizes a camera placed behind the screen and a laser projector to capture the vital parameters of vehicle occupants for various safety and comfort functions. The technology detects the passengers inside the vehicle through the high-resolution OLED screen.

The new Invisible Biometrics Sensing Display also creates a 3D depth map for optimized airbag deployment decisions and reliably detects whether the seatbelt is fastened. Additionally, the new development, created in collaboration with trinamiX, offers contactless analysis of vital parameters such as heart rate. This allows stress situations or impending medical emergencies to be detected in time. If necessary, an appropriate safety function of the vehicle can be initiated to protect the occupants and other road users.

Biometric image analysis meets AI

To capture vital data, a 1.5 MP Near Infrared camera and a laser dot projector, which is harmless to the human eye, are placed behind the OLED screen. The biometric image analysis used here comes from technology partner trinamiX. The method utilizes the reflections of the light dots emitted by the laser dot projector in the invisible light spectrum to derive results based on artificial intelligence. The solution also provides further relevant information: the distance from the driver to the cockpit or the classification of textile materials needed for recognizing a correctly fastened seatbelt.
