The CES tech fair in Las Vegas is also an important stage for companies from Germany. This year, Bosch showcased a variety of solutions, all related to AI.

The technology group and automotive supplier Bosch aims to generate a higher portion of its revenues from software and artificial intelligence applications in the future. "Software and digital solutions have become an integral part of our business," said Tanja Rückert, Managing Director of Robert Bosch GmbH, at the CES tech fair in Las Vegas.

By the beginning of the next decade, Bosch aims to achieve annual sales of 6 billion euros from software and services. In 2023, the Bosch Group had a total revenue of 91.6 billion euros (943.846.400.000 USD).

A large portion of the software solutions will include artificial intelligence, Rückert said. Bosch now employs around 5,000 AI experts. "And in the past five years, we have filed more than 1,500 AI-related patents." This makes the company number one in Europe when it comes to AI-supported patents.

At the tech fair, Bosch presented various solutions that incorporate AI. These include a smart crib designed to help monitor a baby. Sensors and cameras are used to track the baby's heart and breathing rates. The software also provides timely alerts if a stuffed animal or blanket covers the child's airways. Additionally, the crib can automatically activate a gentle rocking function of the cradle.

Another AI solution from Bosch can warn drivers of oncoming wrong-way drivers. The wrong-way driver warning system tracks vehicles as they approach a highway on-ramp or off-ramp. Using anonymized data, the system can determine whether the vehicle is moving in the permitted driving direction. The warning messages can be transmitted to the affected cars via satellite radio, such as SiriusXM.

For its e-bike system, Bosch has developed a software solution to better protect the battery—the most valuable part of an electric bicycle—against theft. With the "Battery Lock" feature, an e-bike battery is no longer usable without the appropriate digital key. While this can't prevent theft itself, it is intended to deter repeat offenses, as the thieves cannot make use of the stolen item.
