Aumovio has announced that it is realigning its research and development activities. Continental's spun-off automotive division plans to cut up to 4,000 jobs by the end of this year. According to the supplier, jobs in Germany will be affected in the high three-digit range.

The supplier aims to achieve an R&D expenditure ratio of less than ten percent by 2027. According to its own figures, the ratio in the third quarter of 2025 was just under twelve percent. In addition to the German sites, R&D departments in India, Singapore, Romania, Serbia and Mexico are also affected.

A Volunteer Program at the Start

In Germany, Aumovio says it has entered into a social partnership dialog with employee representatives. The measures are to be implemented in the most socially responsible way possible. Among other things, the company plans to launch a volunteer program at the affected locations in Germany from the beginning of March.

"In a challenging environment, we are now taking additional measures to consistently increase our efficiency," says Philipp von Hirschheydt, CEO of Aumovio. "We are focusing on value-creating technologies, investing in future fields and utilizing both new and proven partnerships."

This focus means a leaner portfolio. Together with the standardization, automation and improved organizational set-up measures already underway, this will lead to a reduction in the number of jobs required in the development areas, according to the company.
